Hi, I'm Simone, and this is Signout!

Signout was originally a startup built by an awesome team of residents and engineers to help residents find open positions. But life happens, so the site went quiet. Three years later they handed me, a computer science student, the keys to the site and the freedom to improve it however I wanted. I took that opportunity and ran with it.

At first I just wanted to build the best free jobs board I could. The sites serving open positions were overpriced and exploitative, and most of them were just pulling public information together and charging for it. I wanted to do the same thing, but better, and free.

So I did!

While I was researching the open positions market, though, I found out it was just the tip of the iceberg, and that's what brought me to international medical graduates. The average IMG spends thousands of dollars in application fees, applying to 100+ programs, just to be automatically rejected by dozens of them for criteria (visa status, year of graduation, USMLE attempts) that are technically public but buried across hundreds of databases and program pages. Nobody had pulled it all together for free. So I built my favorite tool on Signout: the residency screener. Put in your visa type, your YOG, and it shows you exactly which US programs report screening you out, which ones don't, and which ones don't report enough to tell.

I wasn't done there, not by a long shot. I shared my tools, begged for feedback, and built every feature request I got. There's a dashboard of vetted free resources for everything from resident mental health to USMLE prep. A checklist that walks you through the entire IMG journey. Match stats built on historical NRMP data, so you can see your real chances in your specialty. Fellowships too, both open positions and a screener to find which programs will let you in. And more coming. All of it 100% free, forever.

And here's what really grinds my gears: none of this was expensive to build. AI has made developing software absurdly cheap, and yet these companies are still charging the same prices. We have this incredible new capacity, and all anyone wants to do with it is pad their own wallets. Signout is about turning that capacity toward the common good.

Because if I can build it for cheap, you should have it for free.

If something's broken or missing, tell me. I read everything, and I'll probably build it.

Simone
